streetlights and daylight

a riff on a toot, and a thread

A wise man once shared notions of the streetlight effect with me ^[ Streetlight Effect – Yohan J. John ].

One interpretation of the Batterman paper ^[ Https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10701-010-9493-4 ], is an attempt to reconcile what-appears-under-streetlights, by audit of only those phenomena directly lit by the existing, discontinuous, street lights, of one street

There is more to the street than might appear, from under one-all-or-any discontinuous streetlights:

  1. Let us say that I have a torch: a torch is less effective than a streetlight, sure; but it does allow me to venture beyond the bounds of streetlights, into the street at large; even beyond
    • For me, it is clear that audit by streetlight fails to consider the complete space of explanation; for supposedly emergent, anomalous phenomena
  2. Let us assume daylight will arrive at some point, which:
    • Will illuminate the entire street
      • And so effectively, that prior illumination will seem dim by comparison
    • Will reframe all phenomenal representation previously defined from within isolated pockets of streetlight, by a greater context
      • Which facilitates a reconciliation, normalisation, and sanitisation, of representative accounts
    • Will enable broader, and methodical, exploration of all territory
      • Including historically unchartered streets
    • Will resolve all anomaly

unification

Of course, daylight here represents a unified theory –for unified street-lit representations– if you will.

So, let us assume that our universe can be represented by a unifying theory.

I do not think that this is controversial—is it?

So follows open questions, for the private streetlight club:

  1. If daylight is inevitable, though must be conjured, then what excuse is there for continuing to operate as if it does not exist?
    • All while elevating the special-case distinctions of isolated streetlights, over commonality, and the general case, of the space-of-all-street?
  2. Where are the organised expeditions, by torch light?
    1. Or organised reconciliation, between distinct, isolated streetlights?
    2. ^[ Or organised support for those with torches? –You do remember where your streetlights came from, right? 😉 ] ^[ This is a point worth emphasising: what we are talking about here is a private streetlight club, whereby, most of the worlds population is prohibited from free access to the light; and conversations about the circumstances of light, from the perspective of the space of all explanation, are routinely dismissed, citing opaque notions as unimpeachable truths (opaque notions which are effectively secrets, by function of access restrictions), and which, by virtue of being isolated streetlight and not daylight, unimpeachable-truths they are demonstrably not ]

Thanks again, Dr Yohan John.
